Chico Flores signs new Swansea deal that keeps at the Liberty until 2016

Swansea City have received a major boost ahead of today’s Barclays Premier League clash at Norwich with the news that Chico Flores has signed a new contract with the club.
The charismatic Spaniard, who has become something of a cult hero at the Liberty Stadium with his passionate and whole-hearted displays, has signed a one-year extension that will keep him at the club until June 2016.
Although the central defender still had another two years to run on his current deal, the club were keen to tie the 26-year-old down for a longer spell after impressing in his debut Premier League campaign.
Chico is one of a host of senior players to commit their long-term future to the Swans after Neil Taylor, Ashley Williams, Leon Britton, Michu, David Cornell, Wayne Routledge, Garry Monk, Angel Rangel, Gerhard Tremmel, Jazz Richards and Ben Davies all signed new deals this season to maintain the continuity at the Liberty.
"I'm very happy," beamed Chico. "Everything has gone better than I ever expected considering I only arrived in Wales in the summer.
"I have found it easier to settle here than when I moved from Spain to Italy.
"The language issue can still be difficult at times, but I'm getting there. My English is improving all the time and I have good communication on the pitch alongside Ash (Ashley Williams), who can also speak a bit of Spanish.
"In my debut season the club has won its first major trophy and is safe again for another year in the Premier League.
"It's been a fantastic experience and a massive achievement for the club, both individually and collectively.
"I had no hesitation in signing a new contract for a number of reasons, but mainly because I can only see the team and the club growing.
"We play good football, which I think suits me, and the warmth of the fans towards me has been unbelievable. To hear them singing my name is amazing; phenomenal. I love them all.
"If you put all that together, everything is perfect, and I hope to stay at Swansea for a long, long time."
Swans boss Michael Laudrup, who managed Chico at La Liga outfit Mallorca, was reunited with the former Spanish Under-21 defender in the summer after paying Genoa £2million for his services.
Chico's career started as a youth player with hometown club Cádiz CF in 2005. He also spent loan spells at Racing Club Portuense and Barcelona B, helping the Catalans gain promotion to level three.
The defender then signed with Cádiz neighbours Unión Deportiva Almería to help the club maintain its top flight status in La Liga, before signing a five-year contract for Genoa in Italy for €4 million in July 2010.
A year later he agreed a one-year loan deal with RCD Mallorca where he teamed up with Laudrup, making 33 appearances, before joining the Swans.

Guardado: "We can´t think of a tie as good beforehand"

Two grueling tests await El Tri in the next seven days down in Honduras on Friday and in the Estadio Azteca to face the United States next Tuesday, but for Mexico’s Andres Guardado only one is the true CONCACAF clasico.

“For me, the clasico in the region is against the United States, with full respect to Honduras,” Guardado told the press in Mexico City. “With Honduras there is a big rivalry.”

Added the Valencia winger: “Obviously in Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador, they always see it as special facing Mexico.”

Guardado is well aware of the difficulties of playing in Honduras having gone the full 90 minutes in the April 2009 3-1 defeat, as well as in the 1-0 loss in November 2008.

Mexico had three players sent off in those two games and Friday’s match against a strong Honduras side in the intense heat and forbidding atmosphere in San Pedro Sula promises to be equally as difficult.

Despite that, Guardado wouldn’t settle for a point from the encounter and says his teammates wouldn’t either.

“We can’t think of a tie as good beforehand, it could be seen in good light maybe at the end if circumstances are complicated and we get a draw, but I don’t think any of us would sign up for a draw before the game,” said the 26-year-old.

Atletico and DirecTV plan the South American tour this summer

Enrique Cerezo president of Atletico Madrid and Jacopo Bracco presdent of DirecTV Panamericana, signed the agreement that Atletico will play three friendlies in South America this summer.
Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, and Jacopo Bracco, president of DirecTV PanAmericana, presented at the Vicente Calderon the international tour that the rojiblancos will hold in South America next season and will be organized by the leading satellite television services in the United States and Latin America. The Atletico squad will play three friendlies in South American soil in three different locations in the last week of July and first of August 2013. In the coming days new information about the cities, dates and opponents of our team in this international tour will be revealed.
The presentation was attended by the Vice Presidents Lazarus Albarracín and Antonio Alonso, the general manager, Clemente Villaverde, sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero, and Noain Alfonso, director of sports marketing for DirecTV along with Diego Pablo Simeone, Radamel Falcao, Diego Godin, Cata Diaz, Emiliano Insua and Cristian Rodriguez, American representatives of the first team squad, who were very excited about the idea of playing in their 'home' this summer.
The Atletico president said in his speech, after welcoming the President of DirecTV, Jacopo Bracco, that "it is gratifying for me to introduce to you the agreement we have reached with DirecTV PanAmericana, so this U.S. company will organize the 2013 pre-season international tour of Atletico Madrid. In this case, the tour will consist of three friendly matches between the last week of July and first of August, in three different locations in South America, and DirecTV Atletico and we will announce more details soon."
Enrique Cerezo went on to note that "as you all know, Atletico Madrid has been developing in the past a strategic international presence of its brand, which has led us to become strategic partners of many clubs in many countries in the world, developing different aspects of sporting, economic and corporate social responsibility. Through football clubs and their players, reaching the international dimension, the social impact they have and the media coverage they generate, become privileged tools to extend certain business initiatives. In this sense, Atletico Madrid are working every day to have a greater presence in the Americas, so this agreement will allow us to strengthen the current position in this huge market."Then he said that "as of this moment, we are committed to publicize and promote the brand of Atletico Madrid and its benefits, through the generation of specific content that the American company may be disseminated through its multiple communication channels and platforms, which serve to promote friendly matches to be held next summer. Among the marketing strategies, the tours are a valuable tool for projecting the image of an international team. In recent years, we have traveled many miles through China, Mexico, Thailand, Colombia and Costa Rica, so now we are glad to have the opportunity to travel back to South America and to bring European football to new corners of the world".
This agreement with this television company is an important step for Atletico because, as the president stated, "we know that our team generates a lot of iterest in Latin America. Our Club has nurtured great players from this region, so we have a lot of respect and consideration for this market. We always look with affection and sympathy for Americas, recalling the many figures who have worn our shirt: from Luiz Pereira, Leivinha & Ratón Ayala who played with us in the 70s, to players like Kun Aguero and Forlan, who have marked our recent history, up to the players that are currently part of our squad such as Godin, Cristian Rodriguez, Miranda, Luis Filipe, Cata Diaz, Emiliano Insua, Diego Costa, Falcao and of course, our coach Diego Simeone and his assistant Germán Burgos. This Atlético has a Latin heart."
Finally, the Atletico president stressed that "for the club, it is a privilege that DirecTV has chosen us among many teams in Europe and we can make the most of this tour, forming a partnership with the international media outlet, the leading television services via satellite, which has 20 million customers in the United States and more than 15 million in Latin America and the Caribbean. Last year, in Colombia, we saw the passions unleashed by our team and the presence of figures considered as 'national heroes' as was the case Falcao. For this reason, I'm sure this summer these scenarios will be repeated in other parts of South America, where the enthusiasm and excitement to all the fans and supporters of Atletico will be contagious and will allow the fabs to see many of their idols returning home."
Meanwhile, Jacopo Bracco, president of DirecTV PanAmericana, said "I am very pleased about this agreement with Club Atlético de Madrid for this tour being organised in Latin America. DirecTV, as you have seen, is the protagonist in sports in Latin America and, since 2006, is the only television operator on which you can see all matches of the Spanish League and we have the greatest European football coverage in Latin America. There is a large presence of DirecTV in football and this agreement with Atletico Madrid gives the chance to not only bring it on television, but we can bring it live to the cities. I think it will be a very interesting tour, very innovative and very successful."
Jacopo Bracco ended his speech saying "DirecTV has 35 million subscribers, 15 million in Latin America and 20 million in the United States. We specialise in sports, a multichannel television company in football players, present in all European Cups and FIFA, besides also being leaders in other sports. I want to give thanks to a strong club and the players and the coach for being here to sign this agreement."

CF Villarreal and Cruz Azul FC have reached an agreement over the signing of midfielder Javier Aquino, who will join the ‘Yellow Submarines’ for the next three and a half seasons. Javier Ignacio Aquino Carmona (San Francisco Ixhuatán, Oaxaca, México; 11th February 1990) is a promising young player who plays on his national team, with which he won the gold medal in the London Olympic Games in 2012 and in the Panamerican games in 2011 in Mexico. As well as playing internationally for the country’s youth team, he has played 9 matches with the international first team and played with the squad in the Copa America in Argentina in 2011.
Aquino is a great technical player with good reflexes and speed, making him a complete player. He debuted with the Cruz Azul youth team in Apertura in 2010 and Villarreal’s latest signing continues to play for the Mexican national team, with which he will play in a friendly against Denmark on the 30th January in Phoenix (USA) which will most likely be his only match with the team before the Concacaf World Cup try outs. If the Mexican manager decides, Jose Manuel de la Torre could play for the team’s next match against Jamaica, a qualifier which will take place on the 6th February.

Emiliano Armenteros: 'We have to win in Granada'

Osasuna player, Emiliano Armenteros, wants to forget about decisions taken by the referee in Getafe: “Nothing can be done; I feel angry but I have to focus on the next match and further ahead”. Speaking about the latest technology that can be used to avoid these errors, he says “technology yes, is great for these situations, but there’s nothing that can be done about Saturday. There’s no going back”. The Argentinean talks about his red card: “It could have been avoided, but it’s done now. I’m angry because I left the team with 10 men. But you learn from things like that. I hope they reconsider and change the call, because in my opinion there was no contact with the forward leg. It’s a tackle and it can seem more because it happens with speed. However it’s not an excise. I have to learn from this”.
Being sent off meant the player was unaware of the end result: “I was told when all the lads came back to the dressing room. The team has really picked up pace since the RCD Espanyol match in Getafe and individually and collectively the team did well. So the end result was a shame”. Armenteros, says that with one point of three they need to win in Granada: “Before the game we knew that we would have to win in Granada, In the next round we’ll give it our all and try and win so we can take the Christmas break and relax a little more”.

No pain, no gain for Chico Flores

Swans defender Chico Flores is determined to push himself into the frame for Saturday’s trip to Newcastle United.

Chico has been sidelined with a thigh injury since limping off in the impressive Capital One Cup victory at Liverpool a fortnight ago.

And having missed the last two Barclays Premier League fixtures against Chelsea and Southampton, the £2m summer buy from Genoa, who scored the opening goal at Anfield, is desperate to recover in time for the difficult clash at St James’ Park.

“I’m still feeling a bit of pain, but it has improved a lot,’’ declared Chico. “I am hoping to return to full training on Thursday to see how it reacts.

“Like all players, I want to play week-in, week-out, and I am not the type of person who likes to leave the field with an injury. But I just couldn’t carry on at Liverpool; it was too bad. I thought I would recover after three or four days, but it just got worst and has dragged on.

“It was particularly disappointing because I thought I was at a good level after coming back from suspension. I was feeling comfortable on the pitch and with the team.

“My English is improving all the time, and although it’s still early days, I understand my teammates a lot more and can express myself better.

“The injury is a blow, but I hope to be fit and performing well again soon, hopefully at Newcastle on Saturday.’’

Valencia CF sign Andrés Guardado

Valencia CF have officially announced the signing of the Mexican player Andrés Guardado on a four-year deal with the club. The mexican player commented on the offical club web-site that this “is a very important challenge for me at this point in my career, I’m very excited about it. I have dreamed of this since I was little, I have always been eager to play in the Champions League. By signing for Valencia CF I have made my dream come true. When I was a boy I used to watch the Liga BBVA and Champions League on television, and I always dreamed of getting to play in them one day. Now, Valencia CF are going to give me the chance to reach my dream and I’m going to give all I’ve got not to disappoint them. Here the demands will be greater and this will make me perform better and better. Obviously this will help me to improve as a player, as will be seen, and it will also help me to perform better for my country. Coming to a team such as Valencia CF, where the squad is so complete, with great international players such as Rami, Albelda, Alba, Jonás and Soldado, means that you have to give 100% at all times. It is an extra source of motivation since to get minutes on the pitch we all have to be in top form, because the competition that there is here makes the group and each individual improve. As well as this, for me personally it makes me proud to share a dressing room with such great players. I am proud that Valencia have shown faith in me. They are one of the best teams, not only in Spain but also in Europe and any footballer would love to play for this great institution”.
Braulio Vázquez, Valencia CF’s sporting director, said that “Despite being so young, Andrés Guardado already has the experience of playing in two World Cups and, together with Chicharito, is one of of the main pillars of the Mexican national team. He is a very skillful player, of international calibre”.

Serge Ibaka to play for Real Madrid

Real Madrid C. F. has reached an agreement with Serge Ibaka by which the player will join the team to replace Novica Velickovic. The Oklahoma City Thunder centre will remain at Real Madrid for two months as long as there is no resolution to the NBA lockout.

Real Madrid

Serge Ibaka (18-9-1989, Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo) is a 207 cm tall centre with a spectacular physique that became last season's top blocker in the NBA. Nicknamed 'Air Congo' in the 2011 All Star, Ibaka joins Real Madrid after playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder the last couple of years and winning the Gold Medal with Spain in the 2011 EuroBasket. He is the second NBA player to sign for Real Madrid this season.
Serge Ibaka has been passionate about basketball since he was a child. His father and mother were internationals for the Congo and he started to make his mark when he was just 14 years old. He signed for Brazziville's Avenir du Rail in the 2004/05 season, played the African Championship with Inter Brazzaville in 2005, and participated in the Under-18 African Championship with the Congolese national team in 2006.

Ibaka signed for Barcelona side Hospitalet in 2007 as an Under-19. His performances with the team in the LEB Oro league allowed him to be picked by the Thuder in the 24th position of the NBA Draft. Before leaving for the US, Ibaka played in the ACB League during the 2008/09 season with Ricoh Manresa, scoring 7 points and grabbing 4.5 rebounds on average per clash.

The centre has been one of the Thunder's most prominent players in the last couple of years (9.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 blocks pg in the regular season) and helped them reach the Western Conference Finals. After becoming a Spanish national, coach Sergio Scariolo called him to play in the 2011 EuroBasket, which Spain eventually won.

Spain became just the fourth country ever to win back-to-back gold medals as it outpaced France 98-85. Spanish national team had too much offensively for France and once they moved 13 points in front, early in the third quarter, they never seriously looked like relinquishing their title. Juan Carlos Navarro was named the MVP of the tournament and the two You First players had a good performance. Serge Ibaka scored 4 points, 1 rebounds and 5 blocks; Victor Sada scored 2 points, 1 rebound and 1 assists.
Another difference maker in the final was Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka, who had five blocks in a five-minute span in the second quarter when Spain built a 10-point lead that it never relinquished. Ibaka, You First client, said that "this was my destiny and I have achieved my dream. I knew that we were going to win because we have a great team. It is my first year with the team and look! Yes sir, five blocks, that's right man."

Spain comeback claims fifth Under-19 crown

Ginés Meléndez's side twice trailed but Paco Alcácer came off the bench and struck two goals in the second half of extra time to secure the title.
Substitute Paco Alcácer scored twice in the second half of extra time as Spain came from behind on two occasions to finally overcome the Czech Republic and claim a fifth UEFA European Under-19 Championship title in an engrossing final.

After an even first half in Chiajna, the Czechs struck first seven minutes after half-time thanks to Ladislav Krejčí's fierce low shot. Spain, beaten in the 2010 final and seeking a fifth triumph in the competition – which means they would keep the trophy – pressed hard and got their reward in the 85th minute thanks to Jon Aurtenetxe's opportunistic strike. Substitute Patrik Lácha restored the Czech lead in the 97th minute, but Paco Alcácer replied 11 minutes later and decided a gripping contest in Spain's favour in the 115th minute.

The Czechs were first to threaten, a slick move down the left ending with Krejčí flashing a cross-shot past the far post. Spain produced some typically slick first-half interchanges, Pablo Sarabia a regular threat down the right while Álvaro Morata and Rubén Pardo also bristled with attacking menace.

The Czechs, however, regularly posed problems from set pieces, Jakub Brabec going close with a header from a corner early in the second period, although their 52nd-minute breakthrough came in open play. Substitute Martin Sladký started the move, winning possession just inside the Spain half, but the rest was all Krejčí's own work, the midfielder holding off three defenders to drill a left-foot shot across Edgar Badia and into the far corner.

Spain coach Ginés Meléndez promptly brought on Alcácer, the top scorer at last year's U17 finals, and the replacement nearly made an instant impact, Tomáš Koubek parrying a fierce shot at his near post. The No11 then steered Sarabia's delightful left-wing cross wide before being denied by another Koubek block, but Spain kept coming and finally levelled with five minutes left, left-back Aurtenetxe diverting in Pardo's volley from close range.

Meléndez's side might have won it without the need for extra time but instead their failure to cope with Krejčí led to them conceding for the second time seven minutes into the first additional period. The Czech No13 burst into the area and pulled the ball back for Lácha to slide low beyond Badia.

Again Spain would not admit defeat, Morata heading on for Alcácer to equalise with 12 minutes remaining, and seven minutes later the Valencia CF forward finally settled the contest. Another composed finish left Koubek with no chance, and took the trophy to Spain for good.

Brendan Haywood and Mavericks win First NBA Championship

After a 105-95 over the Miami Heat win in Game Six of the NBA Finals, the Mavericks claimed their first NBA Championship in team history, led by Jason Terry's 27 points (19 in the first half), and Dallas used a strong team effort to extract revenge on the team that sent them into a five year run of playoff disappointment.
But as crazy as the loss for the Miami Trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, the moment was even more gratifying for Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki.

Nowitzki has spent his whole NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks, and has been the center of the Mavericks' recent playoff failures, received harsh words from Dwyane Wade about not being the Mavericks' leader in the 2006 NBA Finals. He was the center of the 2007 Mavs team that went 67-15, but lost to the Golden State Warriors. He won the MVP that year, but due to the loss to the eighth-seeded team, the NBA waited a week for his trophy presentation. It was the will, the determination, and the focus that carried Nowitzki through these playoffs and helped cement his legacy.

How focused was this veteran team? From Nowitzki and Terry (the last two players on the 2006 team) to Jason Kidd (who had two Finals appearances with the Nets- both losses). From JJ Barea to Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion. From DeShawn Stevenson to Ian Mahimi and Brian Cardinal. The fact that Dallas used their depth and worked hard to get to this point and bring home their first ever championship. It's the seventh for the city of Dallas (five Cowboys Super Bowls, a Stanley Cup for the Stars in 1999). This championship, for the Mavericks, for Mark Cuban, who has spent $880M on player salaries since he bought the team in 2000, was well earned, and well invested, and most importantly. Well-deserved.

2006 can finally be erased. 2011 has healed the pain. Congratulations, Dallas. Enjoy the championship.

Two late goals from Nabil Baha and Pantelis Kafes sealed a 3-0 victory for AEK Athens over Atromitos in the Greek Cup final. The tension in the stands was reflected on the pitch, as both teams found it hard to establish a foothold in the game, until Nikos Liberopolous broke the deadlock with a header from Nacho Scocco’s cross in the 28th minute. Scocco was soon replaced by Baha in the 37th minute due to injury, and the substitue went on to seal the victory in the 78th minute when he finished inside the six yard box after a deflected cross by Panagiotis Lagos.
Manolo Jimenez's team put the icing on the cakse five minutes from time and Lagos again supplied the assists, slipping in Kafes who lobbed the goalkeeper to seal the cup for the Enosis and in the process, put an end to their nine-year wait for a trophy.

Javi Varas made a superlative match against Villarreal with several outstanding performances, but at the end of shock was happier with the result of the team rather than his individual efforts: “Good, I am content even though I let in two goals. I am never happy with everything, but my personal action must be committed to the team and the attitude that it has.”
Varas confessed that the clash became ugly because “in the second half they went out with intensity and the change of Rossi strengthened them a lot. His goal changed the match, but luckily we knew how to react and played a beautiful match. Both sides had their chances and luck accompanied ours.”
